How a Homesteaders Life policy funds your funeral plan
Pre-need funeral insurance is a life insurance policy set up to pay for a specific funeral plan. The plan says what you want. The policy pays for it.
Two agreements, each with its own job
The funeral arrangement is made with Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary. The insurance policy is issued by Homesteaders Life Company. They are separate documents. Billy explains both, and you get both in writing.
What Homesteaders Life says its policies do
- They are offered through select funeral homes, here Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary.
- They are meant to reduce stress for the family and make your wishes clear.
- They offer flexible payment options and lifetime coverage.
- Covering the funeral cost helps your family use other money the way it was intended.
- The policy is transferable if you move. Funeral costs vary by provider, and coverage may increase over time to help offset inflation. That is not a guarantee that every price is locked.
Homesteaders Life Company was founded in 1906 and holds an AM Best financial strength rating of A- (Excellent), effective May 2025. Check ambest.com (opens in a new tab) for the current rating.
Why we don't post prices or rates
Funeral prices come from the funeral home's General Price List, which you receive at the meeting. Policy costs depend on the plan you choose and your application. Any number on a website would be a guess, and your family deserves the real one in writing.
What your family does when the time comes
Their first calls are to Inglewood Cemetery Mortuary and to Billy, not just a generic 800 number. The funeral home works from the plan you made. Billy stays available to the family as their contact. We do not promise how fast a claim is paid; the policy and the carrier's process decide that.
Paying for it
You do not have to sell investments to plan ahead, and we will never tell you to cash out a retirement account, CD or annuity to pay for a plan. If you are thinking about using savings, talk with an independent tax or legal advisor first.
